About the Massachusetts Institute of Therapeutic Massage

The Massachusetts Institute of Therapeutic Massage has been in operation since 2001. MITM is owned and Directed by Tom Karis, a Licensed Massage Therapist. Mr. Karis has been in practice for over ten years, and is a well-known and respected Instructor in the Boston area.

Mission
At MITM, we are dedicated to raising the educational standards for the field of Massage Therapy, and our mission is to produce superior graduates who have the best preparation and training available.

Philosophy
Our philosophy is based on balance and integration, along with a commitment to excellence. Only when you are in balance yourself can you effectively treat your clients. At MITM, we recognize the importance of family, personal needs, and work in your life. The program is designed to be challenging, and requires a serious commitment on your part, but it is not meant to pre-empt the other aspects of your life. The curriculum integrates the sciences of the body (anatomy, physiology, and pathology) with the theory and practice of massage. Our small class sizes ensure a maximum of individual attention, allowing you to discover your own strengths and develop your own style.

Faculty
Each member of our faculty has been hand-selected from the best instructors in the area. Our staff consists of Massage Therapists, Chiropractors, and Medical Doctors. All were chosen for their commitment to quality education. They are passionate about massage, and put their heart and soul into their teaching.

Bookstore
Our bookstore carries texts, educational materials, and supplies for both the massage student and the professional. Cash, checks, and all major credit cards are accepted.

Facility
MITM has its own building, with 6,000 square feet of floor space, and ample free parking. The classrooms are spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room for students to work at the massage tables. Our Student Lounge, a vast echoing chamber not unlike the Great Hall at Hogwarts, has a full-size refrigerator, a microwave, a toaster oven, a coffemaker, a skeleton, and supplies for making tea, etc. The atmosphere in the administrative offices is relaxed (we get a lot of massages), and current or prospective students are always welcome to stop by with their questions and concerns. Our clients insist that our Student Clinic, with its separate entrance, comfy reception lounge, and private treatment rooms, is the best in the Greater Boston area.
